Hazel Hewlett

Hazel Hewlett is a 41 year old single mum living in Pershore, Worcestershire. Trained in Art and Design at Evesham   College and later Worcester   University . Circumstances led to a ‘proper’ job as a psychiatric nurse (RMN). Her first love however remains her art. Her nursing experiences, often bizarre and Surreal, coupled with her obsession for recycling, are often reflected in her work.

Describing herself as “An illustrator, textile artist and surface mixed media designer”, Hazel takes a moment of time and attempts to capture her vision on canvas by the use of texture, colour and line, utilizing a mix of paint, inks, textiles and often mundane objects, from sweet wrappers to bits of metal, nails, washers etc.

While an admirer of Picasso, Kandinsky and Ben Nicholson, amongst many, her greatest influence has been her college tutor. Hazel is currently experimenting with different forms of printmaking and is integrating mono, lino, collograph block and screen printing into her work.
